A fine 18K gold and enamel quarter repeating triple case verge watch, made for the Turkish MarketSigned Markwick Markham Borrell, London, No. 24361, circa 1777 With gilt-finished verge movement, finely engraved and pierced cock and foot, chain fusée, plain three arm steel balance, diamond endstone, repeating on two hammers onto a gong, the white enamel dial with Turkish numerals, gold beetle and poker hands, the pierced inner case with scarlet and white enamel decorated bezel, polychrome enamel floral and geometrical decorated border, the reserve with a painted polychrome enamel bouquet of flowers on translucent pastel guilloché enamel background, polychrome enamel decorated pendant and bow, the scalloped middle case with pierced and polychrome enamel floral decorated bezel and rim, the reverse centred by a painted polychrome enamel lakeside scene on translucent pastel guilloché enamel background, diamond-set thumb piece, the scalloped outer protective case with pierced and polychrome enamel decorated bezel and rim, diamond-set thumb piece, repeating through the diamond capped pendant, dial and movement signed, case stamped AN and with London datemark for 177751 mm. diam.
